James Jandak Wood is a screenwriter, director and producer based in the San Francisco area. James' first film, Crude Impact, is a documentary feature which James wrote, directed and produced. The film details how the discovery, extraction and use of petroleum has impacted humanity, other species and the planet. Crude Impact has been screened in over thirty film festivals including the prestigious International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam. Notable awards include the Best Environmental Feature Film at the 3rd Annual Artivist Film Festival in Los Angeles, the Grand Jury Prize at the 2nd Annual Cinestrat Film Festival in Finestrat, Spain and the Social Justice Award at the 22nd Annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Crude Impact has been translated into five languages and broadcast in many countries around the world. After Crude Impact, James wrote and directed Life After Dogma, a short fiction film about humanity's attachment to belief systems. He also collaborated with Dionisio Ceballos, an Emmy Award winning artist, on a short animated film. The film, entitled Three Ring, is a humorous look at the historical, conflicting views between science and religion. James is currently in post production on a short documentary he directed about the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra and its musical director Benjamin Simon. The film is entitled Where Words Leave Off. James has recently completed a feature length narrative screenplay and hopes to begin pre-production soon. James earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Villanova University. He subsequently studied filmmaking at the Film Arts Institute, the Bay Area Video Coalition and the San Francisco Film Society. James also studied Shakespeare and modern literature at Oxford University Master's Summer program. |
